If you want, add informations, sheetmusic, examples ....and last but not least your recordings.
Have fun and learn well.

Found something on youtube

How NOT to play this Song ๐Ÿ˜‰

Better and sweet.

maybe a possible learning source for the ones who like to learn by sight

a challenge
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DHPnHaV-CM

a playlist with many versions - start it and all videos play one after another
i like to listen to different versions to get a tune "into my head"
Link to the Youtube Playlist - Down by the Saly Gardens if you want to view it there

maybe one of you has dots, abc, whatever notation to share?

On The star of the county down I didn't use ornamentation when I tried serious recording, just tonguing.
I did some craziness on next "crazy" recordings, but it was ... crazy and completely wrong (including wrong cut-like ornaments if I remember correctly).

I'm glad you enjoy it ๐Ÿ™‚

i didnt mean your recording i meant the tune in general

i like "the star of the county down" with tounging and sluring" but not with other ornaments (as far as i can say now, my teste has to develop)

but this tune "down by the sally gardens" seem to be nice with those kind of ornaments
that you used (maybe my taste did develop already a bit ;-))

I did check out this tune today for the first time (did have a look at sheetmusic)
And i noticed that it, even if its maybe an easy tune to play, its not easy for a beginner to the "dots" (sheetmusic notation) to read and play.
It contains half pointed notes (did met them before once i think) and even pointed notes (they are new to me - Hello i am the german Whistler what do you want to tell me?).

I could play this tune by tabs and ear and also by the "dots" (sheetmusic) together with a soundfile,.... but it will interupt my learning steps of the "dotsreading" (this tune is an advanced one for me in this case).

I think i will need some more time to learn it on the way i would prefere, first learn the dots then the tune but its good for me because i finaly have a reason to continue with learning to read sheetmusic (i stoped for a while and didnt touch my tutorials at all and just did practise what i already can play, its time to moove on now and this tune ia pushing me to do it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lets see when i can submitt a recording

Andreas ... It is also good that the sheet music is challanging you. Once you get the tune in your head I think you will find that it flows real nice from part to part. You will pick it up fast.

Andreas: It's a some time when I last looked into Walton's book, but I don't remember any dotted notes :-/. I'll try to find this book and ... let will see. Actually, some notes I played differently (because I heard it so in some audio with this tune). Nevertheless, most of them I tried to play exactly as it was on CD (which was together with the book). You're better, you can read notes. I just copying what I hearing.

The only thing I know about dotted notes is, that this means that this note is prolonged by half of own length of note (length_of_dotted_note = length_of_note * 1.5).
EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dotted_note

Hi guys,

I encoded this to a software for my training in Orchestration and Notation.

Here is a music sheet in PDF file
https://www.box.com/s/mjqjlfhfjyvbmiiijsyy

Here is a WAV format with Metronome (Andreas this will help you on keeping your Rhythm. I improved on the freaking click sound. Listen to the Click sound regularly. ๐Ÿ˜‰ and listen to the tone altogether)
https://www.box.com/s/2hd23bd70zgpq6jrftzp

Here is without a Metro (this is to test yourself on without a Metronome, remember that the ultimate test is how you improved. No cheating)
https://www.box.com/s/m3a2xawyfjpwmid6xtdd

Sorry its a 10MB WAV file. The software does export that way.

The PDF scoresheet has V marks. Those are suggested breathmarks.

Ornamentation can not be captured by the software, sad to say.

Colored notes are parts with similar movements.

Chords are provided. So John, play and mix around... ๐Ÿ™‚

I Hope Box.net is accessible to Shao-yang.

Note that those WAV format is computer generated. It is not me playing...hope it was ahahahh ๐Ÿ™‚

Sorry im a little busy. I will practice this and post my recordings

thanks, with this i was able to play, even if never tried before (only had one time a look at the dots), the first section after one minute only (nearly all by ear and the rest by cheking the dots)

but for serious learning i will play by reading the dots first and transcribing it into numbers (my learning methode) at second
this will take more time but after this ill have it better in my memmory as just by ear (i guess & hope)

by the way, i like your sheetmusic with the different colours, which software do you use?

for changing .wav files into .mp3 files try "Free WAV to MP3 Converter" from http://www.polaris-software.com/ its free its easy and it works well

There is some static on the recording so I may redo it at some point but no sense in not getting something up.

Low F Whistle

I love the sound in F it is quite haunting

I love to try any tune at different whistle to practice my breath control. Basically the lower the whistle the harder it is.
Try it on a Mezzo A (or Alto A)

Then try to be brave lowering it... Damn the air requirements ahahahh

I took a long time also, sorry folks.
But i was in the hospital again ๐Ÿ™
And was busy the other days

Anyway here comes my recording, ...
this tune i played on a waltons brass d penny whistle, a typical irish whistle for a typical irish song, i thought that fits.

I did practise a lot on the clarke original in the last days but for the recording i grabbed the waltons, it wasnt even dificult to handle the "plenty chiff" of it this time and it didnt "squeak", i think the tune sounds nice on it.

I did add some echo as i like it (usual)

Please have a listen:

Down by the Sally Gardens on a Waltons Penny Whistle in D (Brass) by the German Whistler

oh by the way, before i forgett it:
i didnt look much at the notes, i didnt bother that much about the dotted notes and the rhythm, i did listen to angles file with the metronom severl times and after that i just did play it as i feel all the time, sometimes fast sometimes slow,.... maybe my rhythm is completely wrong, maybe not, i dont know but i do know that after listening to that song by several artists on youtube, this is how i DO feel this song....and i hope its not that much out of rhythmn ๐Ÿ˜‰

also; this tune was easy for me, easy to find out how i want to play it
the first tune, the star of the county down, i still dont know how i like or prefere to play it but this one, played itself by itsself if you understand what i mean
i was sure about how to play it directly
that was a nice experiance and it was easy to learn as well, the second part did take a while to fit into my memory but that all went fast and easy

great tune, i love it, its one ofvmy favorites to play at the moment

And now, after posting my recording (see above), here comes my feedback to the already posted versions

First:
i didnt listen and look for mistakes, i didnt try to find out if the rhythm is correct or notes are missing or whatever, i just did listen and feel
and will write what i thought

Second:
let me repeat; i write what i feel and think right now after listening again to all recordings one after the other.
I think everybody did well, and at least much better than i thought i will be able to after a short time only.
So nothing is ment as a bad critic, but all as a constructive one.
The following is just what one "listener" think:

i am not a big fan of cuts but your version sound nice with them
also your whistle sounds nice and clear, which one is it?
well played anyway

Wow, that sounds like you (i think its a good thing the have an "own sound"), its in that catchy way you usualy play, but i think it may not fit to this tune so much.
Would like to hear the whole tune from you, maybe you even play it different now under the influence of the second part?

Well done.
You are right, its maybe just the basic bones, i guess there would be room for interpretation and that you could play it better if you would, on the other hand, nothing is worng with "pureness" isnt it?
I relay have to listen again and compare to the other versions to find out, how much i like it .

Well played, i think your version is even purer as the one from ggiles?
Probably also very accurate, i am the wrong person to say something about accuracy as o guess i play sloppy but i guess that you look out fopr accuracy.
But i think i noticed that there is a part which you played different on each version.
That part you played best on the F whistle for my taste.
I like the sound of the A whistle most for this tune.
And i didnt like the sound of the D its "somehow squeaky" isnt it? which one is it?

Hope i didnt forget any recording?

Did you arrange that?

Why dont you play with one of us?
Wouldnt you like to take my recording of the regular part and play the second part to it and than mix it?
I would like to know how that sounds, or am i to much out of rhythmn?

its a shame with the chinese govement
anyway, i hope things are changing AND most (or oll?) of us did also upload soundlcoud or other files, i am not sure but didnt we? (just check)

your recording is very silent, ich will try it later with my new headset, maybe i can hear better than
it is very long, thats a challenge anyway, well done
and... it sounds quite advanced to me with all these ornements
normaly i am not a big fan of ornaments, maybe this change when i am more used to them, but here i like it, it doenst sound like a voice singing the song (like i like whistles) but its an own interpretation of the melody , i think thats how whistles are more suposed to sound like, as like a singing voice ...

* what do the others think?
come on guys thats why we are here, arent we? let us know what you think

* caishaoyang, what do you think about the other files? (the ones not on youtube)

* this challenges make sence when we learn new tunes
but it makes more sence when we share our thoughts about different ways, i belive

I like you before recording.
Objectively , some recording just the beginner stage , but the rhythm is very stable , great, there is a very good foundation .
You know , the Chinese people are very hard in learning , and especially good to put pressure on yourself , ๐Ÿ™‚ I practice very tired , but to hear you recognized , I think all are worth .(i learn whistle by myself,7 month, practice 5 hours perday, and i do my job 8 hours, just sleep 6 hours perday)
the first record,i can't open youtube,so sorry,i can't hear that.
the second, very good,Ornament skill very Accurate,i think you can be a master soon.
i will give some tune links,by whistle! wish you like them!
in.china,we also use whistle paly some "chinese tune",would you like that?

(i learn whistle by myself,7 month,practice 5 hours perday,and i do my job 8 hours,just sleep 6 hours perday)

Wow, your life is imbalance. You should have time for your self as well.

On Office I have 9-10 hours , one and half our of which is lunch and 30 minutes are breaks

2-3 hours traveling.

So thats around 11-13 hours wasted in my life.
8 hours of sleep

So that is 19-21 hours already

with the 3 hours I go to gym for 2 hours and rest on one hour.

Practice is on M-W-F-S, Gym is T-TH

And 5 hours that is crazy. 1-2 hours a day is enough as your muscles will sore. You will not develop muscle memory but muscle sore.

Wow, it is really wonderful. But a bit ... over ornamented(?) for my taste. A little bit less ornaments and it is perfect (for me). Some of them sounds little inappropriate(?).
That's just my opinion - I think that ornaments are like spice - a bit makes it better, but too much makes it worse.
But how it saying goes, a thousand people a thousand tastes.

(I can't rate it this record as any other beginner, because this is more like a pro ๐Ÿ™‚ )

I wonder why, same as with the song "star of the county down" so many females do sing this.
Because the Text is written TO a girl/woman. Well some girls are into girls, i am fine with that ๐Ÿ˜‰ but i guess those singers arent. I wonder why, if they do sing it dont change those "she`s" into "he`s" ... with more modern songs this is made everytime.

Is there a reason why so many females do sind songs to another female in ITM?

Now i know why i remmeber the singer
I had to search but here is a video of the same artist BUT with an "intro" where she ...well should i say "said silly things"? lets be nice and say "she said funny things" when she tried to explain who W. B. Yeats is for example
